Growing Old

A few recent things have got me thinking about age...growing old and how we look.
**Friday I got my hair trimmed. My hairdresser asked if I was going to color my grays. I honestly, give it a thought from time to time. I have always thought of myself as one who would grow old gracefully. To me gray hairs are strands of wisdom. Now,I have no problem with other people dyeing, highlighting their hair. And I want to look my best just like the next person.
**The same day while at WalMart I saw an older woman in her 60's/70's. She did not want to grow old gracefully. She had her hair done all UP. Her shirt was white and black animal print. Cool shades, black capris that had matching animal print cuffs. With red shoes!!
**A couple of days ago I read on a blog a read from time to time about a girls concerns. She is a twenty something married lady who is pregnant with their first child. Her concern, whether she was going to have time to do her hair and makeup before she had her baby. Most of her readers (she has many) felt the same. When I look at the photos from our children's' birth I see them. I see happiness we had that they were here safe and sound.
**Then this morning the kids were looking through our albums. Here's what they had to say..."You guys looked weird!" "Dad wore short shorts." "You had some funny hairstyles!" I told them that was what was cool then. To which they laughed.
**So my point, what is lasting? I know it's been said before. I want our kids, people to like me for who I am, not what I look like.
Am I going to color my hair one day? Maybe...for now I think I'll embrace (accept) the grays, the red blotched, the wrinkles as they come and worry about my heart.
