Awards Banquet

Last night was the Writing Fair Winners Banquet. Colleen won 3rd place for her poem!! This was out of all of the schools in this area even to Mecalero, Holloman, etc! We had a great time!
The two ladies in the photo with her are actually teachers from her old elementary. The one in the background was her kindergarten teacher! So that was special.

And the Winner is...

This is What They Call…

The sirens growing louder and louder everyday
As I fall farther and farther away
I’m dying just staying right here
I’m starting to disappear
I can’t pick myself up
I feel so numb

The doctor puts me on a stretcher
They push away the snatchers
They’ll grab and take away my life
I felt like I’ve been cut with a knife
The nurse dresses my cuts and scars
I’ve fallen too far
I felt my back was up against the wall
But this is what they call a hospital

I was carried in a soldier’s hand
I was shot by an evil man
I had cuts in my stars
Many peoples lives were torn apart
Many choices people had to take
The sacrifices we had to make
I was the flag that was ripped and torn
To have this country born

As the soldiers put their helmets on I felt like I was wrong
With the looks on their faces
I thought I had come to the wrong place
With the glare in the enemies eyes
I felt like I was gonna die
With our faith we scared them like a herd of cattle
This is what they call a battle
Behind the jail bars
I wonder if I went to far
Dressed in black and white
All the choices I made weren’t right
People say this prisons inescapable
They say your choices are unchangeable

When I got the chains on my hands and feet
I knew I had been beat
I knew my life was over
And I had nothing that I could cover
But as someone walked in
And set me free from my sins
But this is what they call grace
This is what they call mercy
I knew I was unworthy
But salvation is what brought me to this place
We just got news that C won in the 7th grade-poetry, in the County Writing Fair!! We don't know what place. I am guessing that all of the homeschool entries went to county. Only upper grade won out of the homeschoolers.

I'm going to make this a quick post. Yesterday R, the kids and I went to the Holocaust Museum. It was really sobering. I made this LO with one of the photos. Credits or to leave comment ;)
This photo was at the end, on one of the walls. The wall had names and pictures of soldiers who help liberate the people in the camps. There were many from El Paso.
Tonight we have a concert at the coffee shop. We may get rain. But it is clearing up. Gotta run. Have a great day!

Just Me Rambling

Ahhh...Friday. I am so glad too. Thursdays for me are a drag. I don't know why. I have a hard time getting motivated on Thurs. So, on Fridays I usually feel refreshed.
We got done with school early today. If the kids keep up the pace in math, they'll be done with the new curriculum by the end of school! IF they keep at this pace they will both finish math a few years early! If not, it's okay too.
Today we are going to try to go to the park for homeschool basketball. We will probably walk. We have walked at least two hours this week. And today will make it three. Having one vehicle is good for the body! Bad for the hair! Haha!
J has a bit of a cold. But he's still as talkative as ever.
This weekend our band has an acoustic show at the coffee house. It's the last concert with out me. Since, they went acoustic I haven't played with them. Honestly, I got lazy and didn't practice! So, I've been getting it back into gear. We have a concert coming up in a month.
Our president project keeps getting bigger. The kids and I really enjoy learning about the presidents. And since it's "free" learning (not from a cirriculum) I think they like that too. So what started out as just casually reading a book about presidents, to 44 colored presidents in our dining room, is becoming a book we're putting together. We took the colored pages and pasted them onto construction paper. We will add facts about them as we go. J especially likes the presidents. He talks about them often. I want to put together more books like this...composers, artist, etc.
I should stop rambling now! Have a great day!
